“9/11 We Can Hold Hands, 9/12 I Don’t Know Man”

Swoope’s 2012 hit album “Wake Up.”

One of my favorite artists, Swoope, composed a song titled, “Blind Eye” off his “Wake Up” album. In the track he says:

“Rwanda got that genocide, but I got that new Honda with the tint inside/ 9/11 we can hold hands, 9/12 I don’t know man”

Now, I won’t bore you with the details of the song, but he basically explores how the average American is unstable in nature. Letting hype snatch their hearts when serious issues arise and then slowly allowing the emotions to subside without truly grasping the lesson.

To paraphrase he’s saying, “we’re really passionate for something when it directly affects us, but when it affects others, I most likely won’t get involved or won’t dawn on the topic for too long because of my busy schedule.”

As we can see with this chart off Google Trends, the days leading up to today, September 11th, there was little mention being made of 9/11. This graph shows the information from this morning at 10am and how the news feed on skyrocketed once the date arrived. (Google Trends, 2015)

Even more interesting is that the people who referred most to the event throughout the country were not from the Metropolitan area, Arkansas was #1 at the time. (Google Trends, 2015)

Now, I am not making the case that every day needs to be a day of mourning and grief, but the fact that Americans are so consumed in pop culture and personal needs has become problematic in scope of the bigger picture (which will be probed in future posts). American’s are apparently not busy enough to trend the web on topics such as the MTV Video Music Awards.

On this day, perhaps even more tragic, is the inability to know what to do with all the information and outcome. “A people are destroyed from lack of vision” and below is the best vision I think people can assume:

To seek to be a support for the family and friends of those who have suffered and are still suffering due to the catastrophic outcome. Remember the victims’ families in your prayers and also seek to live every day as though 9/11 can happen again. There are many present events taking place internationally, as well as domestically, that are not 9/11, but are similar in form. You don’t want to be caught off guard and find yourself not making amends and restitution with your situations assuming that you have another day to make resolve.

Today is your day to make life changing decisions for tomorrow’s life changing decisions.

Grace & peace
